Accessibility
Last updated 21 May 2026
Optimal Health is committed to making both our website and our Newport clinic usable by as wide an audience as we reasonably can. This statement explains what we are doing, what we know is still imperfect, and how to tell us when something doesn’t work for you.
Our target
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at AA level across the customer-facing pages of optimalhealth.co.uk. New work is designed and built with that target in mind, and existing pages are audited periodically.
What we have done
- Semantic HTML throughout, with proper landmark regions (header, main, footer, nav) and a sensible heading hierarchy.
- Form fields carry visible labels, programmatic associations and inline help text where needed.
- Focus is always visible. We use a 2px solid focus ring in our primary brand colour, with 2px of offset.
- Body text on our two primary surfaces (Alabaster and Silken) is rendered in ink colours that exceed AA contrast and, in most cases, AAA.
- The site works without JavaScript for reading and navigation. Booking submission requires JavaScript; if you cannot use it, please email or phone us instead.
- Variable fonts are loaded with
font-display: swapso you can read text before custom fonts arrive.
Known issues
We are honest about where we have work to do. As of the date at the top of this page:
- The booking date and time inputs use native browser controls. These vary in quality between browsers and assistive technologies. A fully custom, accessible calendar is on our roadmap.
- Decorative gradient panels currently stand in for commissioned photography. When photography is added, every image will carry a meaningful alternative text or be marked decorative as appropriate.
- We do not yet provide a high-contrast mode toggle. Our default palette is designed to clear AA without one, but a user-preference toggle is a planned enhancement.
In the clinic
Our Newport clinic is on the ground floor with step-free access from the street. Consulting rooms are wide enough for a wheelchair user with a companion. We can offer phone consultations in place of in- person ones where that suits you better. If you have a specific accessibility need for your visit — sensory, mobility, cognitive or otherwise — please mention it in the notes when you book or email us in advance and we will make sensible adjustments.
Reporting an issue
If something on our site or in our clinic doesn’t work for you, please tell us. We treat accessibility reports as priority issues.
- Email hello@optimalhealth.co.ukwith “Accessibility” in the subject line.
- Tell us what you were trying to do, what got in the way and, if you can, what device, browser or assistive technology you were using.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within two working days and to fix or provide a workaround within ten, where reasonably possible.
Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) for advice. We will continue to engage with you in good faith regardless.
Preparation of this statement
This statement was prepared on the date at the top of this page, based on self-assessment against WCAG 2.1 AA and on feedback from users. It will be reviewed at least annually and updated whenever a significant change is made to the site.
